Apple Pie Panini
This Panini has all the flavors of Apple Pie between two crispy pressed slices of cinnamon bread. It’s crispy, sweet deliciousness!

If you’re looking for an apple pie experience without all the work of making an apple pie, this is a recipe you must try.
This Apple Pie Panini is the brainchild of my friend Kathy Strahs, who blogs over at Panini Happy. As you might guess from the name, it’s all about creations made with the panini press. Kathy recently published her first cookbook, The Ultimate Panini Press Cookbook, and it indeed has every recipe imaginable for amazing sandwiches, grilled dishes, and even homemade ice cream cones.
I bookmarked quite a few recipes, but I knew I had to try this Apple Pie Panini first. We love all things apple in this house, from Crockpot Applesauce to Cinnamon Sugar Baked Apple Chips, so it was a no brainer!

First you’re going to take two slices of cinnamon raisin bread (I used a homemade recipe that I’ll be sharing on Thursday), and spread the outside of each slice with room temperature butter:

Flip the bread over and spread the other side with a honey mascarpone mixture:

Thinly slice your favorite firm apple (I used Granny Smith here), and remove the seeds:

And layer the apple slices on top of the mascarpone. Sprinkle the apple slices with a little bit of brown sugar (this wasn’t instructed in Kathy’s recipe but I couldn’t help myself):

Add the other slice of bread on top, butter side up:

Sprinkle a little extra brown sugar on the outsides of the bread, and place the sandwich in the panini press:

Press the sandwich for 3-5 minutes until the bread has a crispy, golden brown, caramelized crust:

Slice it in half and enjoy! Happy panini making!

Apple Pie Panini
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup mascarpone cheese
- 2 teaspoons honey
- 4 tablespoons butter, at room temperature
- 8 slices cinnamon raisin bread sliced from a dense bakery loaf
- 1 Granny Smith or other firm apple cored and thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
Instructions
- Either in a small bowl with a whisk or in a mini food processor, whip the mascarpone and honey together until well combined and fluffy.
- Heat the panini press to medium-high heat.
- For each sandwich: Spread butter on two slices of bread to flavor the outside of the sandwich. Flip over both slices of bread and spread 1 tablespoon sweetened mascarpone on each. Top one slice of bread with a layer of apples and close the sandwich with the other slice, buttered side up. Sprinkle some brown sugar on top.
- Grill two panini at a time, with the lid closed, until the fillings are warmed and the bread is toasted, with a sweet crust, 3 to 5 minutes.

Looks so good but reminding me of a turkey, provolone, apple slices, and red mayo (I think cranberry, hot sauce, or beets) panini. I only remember that, that panini was the last one in the case and they never sold it again, at the Aerie Cafe in SUNY Brockport, very disappointed. I instantly fell in love with turkey and apple paninis now. Can’t wait to make this for my best friend, she’s a dye hard fan of apple pies.
Chicken Cordon Bleu Panini – chicken, baked ham, bleu cheese, sometimes I add a slice of swiss and sneak in a strip of bacon cut in half.
I bought a panini maker about 8 years ago. I haven’t had a bad panini yet; delicious and upscale taste to a simple meal. The usual contains 2-3 kinds of cheese and thinly shaved ham or buffalo chicken. A little bit of pesto and arugula or sprouts if on hand after it’s cooked. Great device with nearly limitless options.
This looks awesome! What a great idea. I have got to get a panini press! I don’t really like cold sandwiches, so I don’t make them that often. A panini press might change my world, lol.
And I love caprese paninis. There’s a place here called the Vanilla Bean that makes them. 🙂
my favorite would have to be turkey breast cream cheese and cranberry sauce, thanksgiving between bread slices! yumm!!!
WOW! The bread alone looks already amazing – but to make
a sweet panini filling would never have crossed my mind. Honestly,
I would really like to have one like that right now! (I love everything
with apples involved!)
I have a few cook books but nothing about paninis, so I would be
over the moon to win the book. (Fingers crossed!)
And I forgot to mention – until now I loved turkey with avocado on my panini.

Butter and garlic the outside of 2 pieces of italian bread cut from the loaf.
quick stir fry of onions, bell peppers, tomatoes and mushrooms.
Place the mixture on the bread and cover in shredded pepperjack cheese.
Grill butter side out on medium until cheese is melted and bread is crisp on the outside. This is great with a good black bean soup.
Can’t wait to try the apple pie panini at my Tween’s sleepover. The favorite panini at our house always start with Roast beef – the extras depend on the eater (and the eater’s age!)
My favorite panini is from a local joint called Panini Pete’s. They have the best Ahi Tuna panini. It’s served with fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, and mixed greens. It tastes so fresh and it’s my go-to every time I eat there.
Yum sounds so delicious, don’t have a panini maker but I think I need to go out and get one. I love grilled cheese and bacon with tomato soup of course.
