Pink Lady Apple Sauce with Cardamom and Cinnamon

Wooo apple sauce!

You aren’t excited about apple sauce?

Well I guess if you’ve only had the jarred kind why would you be?

The jarred stuff isn’t very exciting, and sort of tastes like baby food.  But homemade applesauce is SO much better than store bought apple sauce (no surprises there, right?) and is pretty delicious stuff.  AND it’s unbelievably easy to make.

I used Pink Lady apples because I love their flavor.  They are sort of tart and sweet at the same time, but you can use whatever apple you like.

  • 1.5 lbs pink lady apples (6 apples)
  • 1/2 cup filtered water
  • 3 tbsp sugar (adjust depending on the tartness of your apple)
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp ground cardamom

  1. Peel your apples, core them, and cut them in into small chunks.
  2. Place the apple chunks in a saucepan along with the water, sugar, cinnamon, and cardamom, and cover. Simmer for 15-20 minutes over medium heat until the apples are soft enough to mash. Mash them up, and you’ve got yourself some homemade applesauce!
