Reasons We Love This Recipe

- The warm cinnamon and sweet maple syrup is the most cozy combination of flavors.
- The donuts can be made and ready to eat in less than 30 minutes.
Equipment You’ll Need
In this recipe, you will need the typical whisk and mixing bowls to make the batter. But there are also two other pieces of equipment you’ll need for the best results! In order to make these perfectly round donuts, you will need a donut pan. This is because we will be baking the donuts in the oven and the batter is not thick enough to be cooked without a structured pan. Lastly, you will need a wire cooling rack to place the donuts on after they are glazed!
Ingredient Notes
- All-purpose flour— To create the structure of the batter.
- Brown sugar— To give the donuts a sweet and rich flavor!
- Eggs— To act as a binding agent for the batter.
- Whole milk— To help mix the ingredients together and keep the donuts airy.
- Greek yogurt— Make sure to use plain, unflavored Greek yogurt.
- Maple syrup— This gives the donuts the cozy maple flavor!
- Salted butter— Melted. To give the donuts a tender crumb.
- Baking powder and baking soda— Both will help the donuts rise nicely!
- Ground cinnamon— A warm and cozy spice to pair with the maple flavor.
For the Glaze (Optional):
- Powdered sugar— To add a soft texture and sweet taste to the glaze.
- Maple sugar— For a rich, sweet flavor!
- Whole milk— To help the ingredients combine perfectly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it matter what kind of maple syrup I use?
For this recipe, we have found that pure maple syrup works best because it has the strongest and most authentic flavor! But, if you can’t use that then feel free to use whatever maple syrup you have on hand. You will still be able to taste the wonderful, comforting maple flavor. You can even use a few tablespoons of maple extract instead of the syrup if you’d like.
How can I tell when the donuts are done?
You’ll be able to tell that the donuts are done when they look solid and have a slight bounce when pressed. Although the donuts will have some color to them, I wouldn’t rely on the color to indicate when they are done. Another method is to stick a toothpick in one of the donuts, and if it comes out clean or with dry crumbs, then you’ll know they are cooked all the way through! Be careful to keep an eye on the time and do not overcook them or they can turn out dry.
Why are my donuts falling apart?
The donuts might turn out to be crumbly or falling apart if there was not enough liquid. Be careful not to overmix the batter, and gently whisk in the dry ingredients. This will ensure that the batter does not become too thick, and that there is still enough moisture to create a fluffy and soft donut. The donuts will also fall apart if you try to glaze or eat them while they are still too hot. Be sure to give them enough time to cool down before touching them to avoid crumbling donuts!
How to Store Baked Maple Donuts
These donuts will be best served fresh; however you can store any leftovers if you have them! Place them in an airtight container or Ziploc bag, and keep them on the counter for up to 5 days. Enjoy the donuts at room temperature or reheat them in the microwave for 15-20 seconds to warm them up!
Expert Tips and Tricks
- If you use unsalted butter, you will need to add ½ teaspoon of salt to the donut batter along with the other dry ingredients.
- Sour cream can be used as a substitute for the Greek yogurt in this recipe, since they have a similar texture and bright flavor.
- We try to fill our donut pan up about halfway with batter so they don’t expand too much and overflow on the top!
- Make sure the donuts cool completely before you dip them in the glaze, otherwise the glaze will melt and drip down the donuts.

Delicious baked donuts! Easy to make. Perfect amount of sweetness.
In the donut batter recipe I do not see the measurement for maple syrup, so I used a little less than 1 tbsp. and that seemed just right for my family’s taste when paired with the glaze that has 1 tbsp. of maple syrup.
Thank you for a great, delicious and easy to make recipe for a quick fall treat!
Thanks Tara! Nothing beats fall baking! Happy cooking!
