Chocolate Pecan Tart
Looking for a twist on pecan pie without corn syrup? This Chocolate Pecan Tart has wonderful cocoa flavor, and is sweetened with honey and maple syrup.
Hi there, Fifteen Spatulas readers! My name is Allie and I usually blog over at Baking a Moment, but Joanne invited me to come over here today while she recovers from surgery.
This delicious chocolate pecan tart starts with the most delicious chocolate cookie crust.
I actually used Joanne’s Chocolate Wafer Pie Crust recipe. It’s as easy as crushing up some homemade chocolate wafers, adding a little melted butter, and pressing them into the bottom of a buttered tart pan. You’re going to love the crunchy texture and the chocolate flavor- it’s so good with the caramely pecan filling!
To boost the chocolate flavor even more, you’re going to scatter a few handfuls of chocolate chips over the bottom of the tart.
Then, layer in the chopped pecans, and finally, pour in the buttery caramel mixture.
It’s made from simple ingredients: eggs, brown sugar, butter, maple syrup, and honey.
Traditionally, you’ll see corn syrup, and I don’t have anything against a little corn syrup now and again, but to be honest it doesn’t have nearly as much flavor as maple and honey. Along with the brown sugar, this tart has a really nice deep flavor.
I like to also add a couple tablespoons of bourbon to the mix, but if you aren’t much of a fan feel free to leave it out!
Once the tart is baked, the cookie crust melds with filling, and you end up with an almost brownie-like base. It’s pretty outta this world!
This tart is just perfect for entertaining. It can be made a day or two ahead and served at room temperature. It’s pretty sturdy and it holds up well for traveling.
If you’re looking for a dessert to make or bring to Thanksgiving dinner, give this recipe a try!
Thank you so much Joanne, for having me over today to talk to your readers! I hope you guys enjoyed, and let’s all hope Joanne feels much better real soon.

I’m so happy you are recovering and are in good spirits. I know everything will be alright for you. And I have to say, I love this pecan tart. Delish
I hope you feel better very, very soon! I can’t think of a better blogger to have help you on your site than Allie!! This pecan tart looks incredible!
1 thing you should know about chemo is that some chemo down the line can cause cancer that is why they talk about the 5 year survival rate.
I have heard of these hot chemo baths. A friend of a friend had them for cancer of the appendix. She was Stage 3 I believe. I know that they extended her life, but did not cure her. I would think this would be a good option, as you are not considered malignant. I don’t think they were a debilitating treatment as chemo is. I will talk to the MD I work for and see what he has to say. I am glad you are recovering and beginning to get your strength back.
Praying for a speedy recovery and for healing, Joanne! And Allie… this tart looks ridiculously good!
Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your blog! I have too suffered many health issues and am trying to heal myself. I have become very interested in natural and holistic healing. I would hate to be in your shoes trying to make a decision like that. I have become to distrust doctors so much- I would really do as much research as I could. Cancer is a funny thing and does respond to letting the body heal. Of course that takes a lot of study of drugs and their side effects, also different foods that contain pesticides, additives and their side effects. So much that we eat anymore is altered and can cause so much damage to us over time. Sorry to get on my soap box, just really feel for you! Please really weigh your options and get better soon-prayers for you 🙂
Hey, Shugah! I hope you’re healing well following your latest surgery. I don’t have any input as to what a Hot Chemo Bath entails… But I would venture it isn’t something you enjoy at Elizabeth Arden and likely does NOT involve cukes over the eyes or a facial. 🙁
THANK YOU, Allie, for being our pinch hitter today!! Can’t wait to road test your Chocolate Pecan Tart — anyone who knows me knows that all you gotta say is “Bourbon” and I’m THERE! We love our Joanne and all Fifteen of her Spatulas and appreciate what you’ve done here to help out! Thanks again! J3
Joanne, hope you’re getting better each day. Always remember that you have people who support and care for you. 🙂 Allie is such a wonderful friend and this chocolate pecan tart is totally gorgeous!
What is your email address? I will pass on some info to you that a friend is going thru.
Hi Joanne, it’s a procedure that is only done at about 15 hospitals in the US (google it). It is one option that was considered by my mother in law for her battle with Stage IV Adenocarcinoma. Thus far she has only done chemo in her battle with this insidious disease. I believe that the recovery time is extensive but it can result in favorable results. If you query it, word it in different ways to come up with a variety of hits. During our research, we came across the info that it had been performed at Tufts University so you might start there. Good luck and Godspeed.
Wow. This looks amazing. Even more so without the corn syrup. This is on my thanksgiving meal list for this year. Thank you Allie, and thank you Joanne. Get well and hope you find more information about the mysterious chemo bath.
I’ve been thinking of you non-stop… I hope you are hanging in there, friend!
I love what Allie created for your space! What a beautiful creation!
Wonderful to meet you Allie, and yes, thank you for taking good care of Joanne for us. Joanne-we continue to love and support you and send you hugs and healing vibes. You are so loved! I don’t know anyone who has had a chemo wash but I had “between” malignant and benign cells in my cervix. One stage away from cancer. That was almost 10 years ago from the diagnosis and two procedures to remove all those crazy buggers! But happy to say all is well, and continues to be so. I pray the same for you. And Allie, as for this Chocolate Pecan Tart…well, all I can say is it will be on the Thanksgiving dessert table this year!
Joanne, I wish I could provide some insight on the Hot Chemo Bath but I have never heard of that before. . what does your doctor say the side effects are and when would you do this? I admire you so much for sharing all of this with us and am praying for you like crazy. I’m so happy to hear you are feeling a little better each day. . who knew all of this was going to happen but hang in there. You are strong. Always thinking of you! And I love Allie. . she make the most beautiful creations so this tart does not disappoint!
