Life Lately & Links 21
Happy Friday! Just a quick note before I forget, there will be no Life Lately & Links post next Friday. I’ll be in Europe for the first time in 3 years and I’m going to do my best to unplug! Though admittedly, I’ll probably still prepare a few recipe posts in advance to share while I’m there. Unplug-ish?
Today marks one week since James started preschool, and it is going SO well. We had a feeling James needed something like this, and he has been nothing but excited and happy to be there. In fact, it was a little startling for Pete and I, how cool James was when we dropped him off. We were like, is he supposed to cry? Are we supposed to cry? Haha. It all felt very normal, and easy, and kind of weird.
The weirdest thing for me was labeling a million things with James’ name, and also packing his first lunchbox. I’ve already been a mom for a couple years, but…this was like, whoa OKAY I’m a mom now. I’m sure all of this becomes very normal, but right now it’s kind of strange!
It was also really weird to drop James off at school and see all the other parents. I haven’t been near any school environment since I was a kid myself, so I felt a bit of those politics and dynamics coming back. Going through life’s various stages is funny, but a welcome adventure.

I’ve always loved “weird pizza” (as I used to say when I was a kid). There was a local pizza shop called Arizmendi that would put things like butternut squash and corn on their pie, and it was SO good.
I didn’t realize this is how cookie cutters are made!
My dad took me and my brothers to one of these, Bodie, when we were kids, and it was one of the coolest places I’ve ever been to. Creepy, but cool.
I kept seeing (and ignoring) stories on the new Starbucks in Milan, but I finally clicked, and it actually looks really cool.

I’ve tried all sorts of bread crumb swaps for meatballs, but just tried quinoa after reading this article. It went pretty well, but needs tweaking!
Confession: I dislike buying basil at the store. It always seems so expensive for such a small amount! My friend Laura has good tips for growing your own.
I’m a little biased since I’ve lived the Youtube world, but this was an interesting article on the state of Youtube for creators, and none of it surprises me.
A few months ago I listened to a podcast episode with Jessica Alba talking about business, and it blew me away. I liked this panel she hosted with inspiring women in business.
How did I not know that DC has Michelin star ratings? I’ve been to a few of these, but want to work my way through the others. I love DC!
